NHS Referrals
NHS Referrals to the Consultant Surgeons of Cardiff Colorectal is only available via your General Practitioner or another NHS Consultant for non-emergency referrals. In-patient referrals can be made from the Emergency Department and via other Consultants working within the NHS system as required both routinely or as an emergency. NHS patients will then be categorised according to the urgency of their referral and may by sent to the Outpatient department for review or direct to investigation (endoscopy or radiology) as appropriate for their condition. If you would prefer to be seen privately then please see the information on private patients or contact us to make these arrangements for you.
Outpatient ClinicNHS Outpatients are reviewed in clinics which are held regularly in either the University Hospital Of Wales, Cardiff or the University Hospital Llandough, Penarth. These appointments are scheduled by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board according to the patients priority based on their referral information.

EndoscopyMany NHS patients are sent straight to tests based on information provided in their GP or Consultant referral letter. Often this involves being sent for an endoscopic examination of the bowel. This may involve an examination of the gullet (oesophagus), stomach and duodenum - a Gastroscopy or it could involve an examination of the large bowel - a Colonoscopy

RadiologyAs with patients sent to endoscopy for investigation, others are sent direct to radiology for investigation based on the information provided by their GP or consultant referral.
